Description
CPE is Cambridge ESOL's most advanced exam. It is aimed at people who use English for professional or study purposes at an Upper Advanced level.
CPE is internationally recognised by hundreds of employers and universities as proof of proficiency in English. It is developed and run by Cambridge ESOL in June and December each year.
CPE consists of five papers testing the four skills of Reading (1 hour 30mins), Writing (2 hours), Listening (45mins) and Speaking (19mins) as well as a Use of English paper (1 hour 30mins) which tests your knowledge of the vocabulary and grammar of the language, as well as your summary skills.
The exam is designed for candidates who are at the C2 level of the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, equivalent to IHWO level 8.
This means that if you pass CPE, you are proficient at English and are able to function effectively in almost any English-speaking context and are approaching a standard of English similar to that of an educated native speaker. Success at this level represents a significant personal achievement.
Around 1.75 million people in over 135 countries take Cambridge ESOL exams each year. For more information about the CPE exam go to the Cambridge ESOL website at http://www.cambridgeesol.org/exams/general-english/cpe.html.
