Description

The International Legal English Certificate (ILEC) is for people who need to show they possess first-rate English language skills and the ability to work or study in English in a legal context.

ILEC is developed by Cambridge ESOL and runs in May and November.

ILEC consists of four papers which test the skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking, which together last just under 3.5 hours. They are based on tasks and topics that legal practitioners might expect to encounter in their daily working lives.

ILEC is designed for candidates who are at the B2/C1 levels of the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, equivalent to IHWO levels 6 and 7.

This means that if you pass ILEC you have the tools in English necessary to work in an international legal context or to follow a course in law at university level.

Around 1.75 million people in over 135 countries take Cambridge ESOL exams each year. For more information about the ILEC exam go to the Cambridge ESOL website at http://www.legalenglishtest.org/.
