The IH Dhahran academic English program
includes 2 full semester programs of study of 16 weeks each consisting
of 4 hours English per day.
In addition students are expected to study the IIMIT programs
MIS 001 and MIS 002 in conjunction and in addition to their English
studies- although a separate certificate of achievment is issued
for both MIS courses.
Course Aims
To prepare students with a relatively low of English for higher
education either at a university in Saudi Arabia, technical or vocational
college or at IIMIT itself.
The aim of the course is to rapidly boost English language capabilities
in all skill areas and present an introduction to subject areas
of key interest to students planning to study full time undergraduate
courses in Accounting, MIS or Marketing.
The courses will elevate students to a point at which they would
be classed as True Intermediate students
Practical Skills First
IH Dhahran has developed courses that
have integrated the following objectives for the ultimate benefit
of entrants:
• Solid and measured General English skills development level
by level in all areas- speaking, writing, listening and reading
• Practical Task Based Learning with a communicative emphasis
• Multi Level courses that constantly motivate students through
careful evaluation
• Syllabi that reflect students’ strengths and weaknesses-
including a course for absolute beginners
• A steady and carefully planned staged introduction to
Academic English
Raising Expectations – Raising
Motivation
The Academic English foundation Programs taken together comprise
a combined foundation course of two semesters or 32 weeks. This
is an extended period that is crucial if students are to be elevated
from beginners to intermediate level students able to study the
Diploma.
The course work may at times be demanding and will require both
practical and intellectual abilities. The Foundation Program requires
personal study skills including private reading and consolidation
outside of class hours.
We expect as an institute that students focus their efforts as
they cannot pass from level to level unless they attain a solid
pass at Grade D or above. Indeed there are in built cut off points,
attainment barriers, that must be successfully passed before students
are allowed to proceed further. This means that students must work
consistently throughout the course. Failure will mean that they
cannot pass on to the next study level.
