School and town profile: The school's educational activities are carried out in the new building at 16 Stukeley Street in the Covent Garden area of London. Facilities for staff and students are excellent and include a library, listening centre, a Self-Access Centre with computer internet access and ample teaching materials & aids and a wireless network available throughout the school. Many classrooms are fitted with Interactive Whiteboards. There is an extensive programme of student activities and a full Teacher Development Programme as well as an active Teachers’ Centre providing opportunities for professional development. The permanent educational staff number approximately 50 with an administrative staff of 48. A number of temporary posts are offered throughout the year and particularly from June-September. There is a café in the school. Educational activities range from Executive Courses to General English and Exam classes, and Modern Language teaching in addition to International House Teacher Training, which runs a variety of courses: full or part-time Cambridge/RSA CELTA , Teacher Training for French, German, Italian and Spanish, full-time DELTA, the Distance DELTA Training Programme, Methodology and Language Development courses, and a number of Specialised Courses including Using Literature in ELT, Trainer Development and courses for Directors of Studies. Recruitment In offering permanent posts, the School looks for teachers with a minimum of two years’ post Diploma experience, ideally in a variety of contexts, who clearly demonstrate potential for teacher training and/or Exam and Executive teaching (preferably both). A three-year minimum commitment to International House London is required. Temporary, full or part-time posts of two and four weeks duration are also available and re-engagement for further periods may be possible. A limited number of one-year contracts may at times also be available. |
