Background
International House Recruitment Services is based in London at the International House World office, which is the co-ordinating body for all
International House Affiliated schools.
We are responsible for managing the recruitment of teachers,
trainers and senior staff for all affiliated schools.
Some recruitment is undertaken locally by affiliated schools and some through
the Recruitment Service here in London. Annually we expect to assist in the recruitment of between
350 and 400 teachers for International House schools worldwide.
What qualifications do I need to work for International House?
No teacher can be considered for a post in any International House school unless he or she has obtained the CELTA, Trinity TESOL or IHCTL, or holds another recognised TEFL qualification, such as the DELTA or a PGCE in TEFL. Preference will usually be given to candidates with teaching experience as well as the minimum qualifications. If you don't hold such a qualification then please contact International House Teacher Training for further details of Teacher Training Courses.
Where can I work?
Our current vacancies are updated on the IH WORLD website regularly.
Who are we looking for?
- Teachers of General English to adolescents and adults
- Teachers with a primary school background interested in adapting TEFL approaches to younger learners
- Teachers with a background and interest in Business and ESP
- Reliable, enterprising and experienced people to take up positions as Directors of Studies, Senior Teachers and Teacher Trainers
- Teachers of Languages Other than English
What are the terms and conditions?
All our schools adhere to our Quality Standards which provide strict guidelines on employment contracts. Conditions of work vary considerably from school to school, but are generally
above the average paid by other private language schools in the areas
concerned. Salaries are generally paid in the local currency. All teachers
recruited by us are legally employed by the local school, and receive
holiday and sickness pay entitlements. They are protected by state or
private health insurance schemes, and are covered for the costs of repatriation
to the UK in the event of serious illness. The outward fare from the UK
to the country of employment is provided (or refunded on arrival) and
the return fare is paid on completion of the contract period. Some schools
also provide baggage allowances and settling-in allowances and all provide
orientation periods. They assist teachers in finding accommodation; in
some cases the schools provide their own furnished living accommodation
which is let to teachers at reasonable rates.
What about the teaching?
Teaching hours are a maximum of 120 hours a month. In almost all
schools, teachers are required to work in the evenings, and some teachers
may be required to work on company courses off the premises. While contracts
with individual schools are usually for fixed terms and transfer from
one school to another is not automatic, the organisation as a whole is
able to offer a wide range of work possibilities for flexible, talented
teachers.
What will I gain from working for an International House affiliated
school?
All schools have sound educational structures and a good supply of teaching
materials. They are committed to teacher development and provide a high
degree of educational orientation, guidance and support. They therefore
offer an environment which is stimulating and rewarding for experienced
and inexperienced teachers alike. Teachers who wish to move outside International
House will find that the organisation is held in high regard by other
ELT institutions, and that employment with International House has considerably
enhanced their career prospects elsewhere in ELT and related fields.
