IH Auckland
The City
Auckland is New Zealand's largest city with a population of over 1.3 million. The city is well known for its mild climate, glorious scenery and very friendly people. Visiting the excellent beaches, swimming, barbecues and sailing are popular pastimes for Aucklanders and when you see the number of yachts in the harbours you will understand why Auckland is called 'The City of Sails'. Auckland offers a mild climate with temperatures between 11C and 25C.
With AUT International House centrally located in downtown Auckland you will find art galleries, theatres, concert venues, sports facilities, outstanding shops and world-class restaurants at your doorstep.
Many students take the opportunity of exploring New Zealand with its magnificent scenery - landscapes of snow capped mountains, large forests, ice blue lakes, deep valleys, rugged coastlines, and beaches of golden sand - on completion of their course.
The school
AUT International House is one of New Zealand's leading English language teaching organisations. It is part of the Auckland University of Technology, which became a university in January 2000. It offers certificates, diplomas, degrees and post-graduate programmes and has over 25,000 students enrolling each year in the Faculties of Arts, Business, Health Studies, Maori Development, and.
Science and Engineering
AUT International House students receive Auckland University of Technology student identity card. The card entitles students to use the University's libraries, the learning centre, the medical centre, the restaurants and sports facilities. This is a great way to interact with New Zealand students. It also gives you discounts in a number of shops, cinemas and theatres.
The courses
Our aim is to develop and enhance our students' speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in English. Our methods are based on the latest international theories and research. Classroom work is varied and communicative.
We offer General English classes at all levels, as a morning and afternoon option. Students can choose to study General English either part-time (15 hours) or full-time (24 hours). As well as General English we offer the following afternoon options for full-time students:
• Business English
• IELTS
• IELTS/EAP
• TOEIC
Absolute beginners cannot be accepted. Please note that the minimum age for acceptance into AUT International House is 18 years old.

This safe and modern environment provides fully furnished student apartments, each containing 4 or 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a well-equipped kitchen for self-catering. All apartments have single bedrooms with a bed, desk, chair, and wardrobe, and are wired for phone/internet use (no phone or computer included). The Wellesley Student Apartments are located only a 5-minute walk from AUT International House and downtown Auckland. Homestay Accommodation
Speaking English every day in a friendly supportive environment is one of the best ways to become fluent. Our Accommodation staff places students in carefully selected New Zealand homes where they can become part of the family and enjoy the friendship and hospitality for which New Zealand people are known.
Homestay accommodation includes your own room, breakfast and evening meals on weekdays and all meals at weekends and public holidays. Homestay placement fee (which includes airport transfer to the homestay on arrival and airport transfer from the homestay to the airport on departure) is $160 and the weekly fee is $210. This includes breakfast and dinner from Monday to Friday and all meals on weekends. An extra night accommodation costs NZ$30.
Airport Transfers
If you have requested AUT IH homestay accommodation, you will be greeted and picked up by our Airport Meeting Co-ordinator upon arrival at Auckland International Airport and escorted to your homestay family. A free transfer from your AUT IH homestay to the airport is also provided at the end of your course. There is no extra charge for this service.
Student Activities: We can organise weekend excursions and activities for students throughout the year. Every second Friday afternoon our teachers organise free Student activities for the students such as conversation classes, games, tournaments and out- door visits (subject to interest).
