The City
The Roman City of Bath, in the southwest of England, is considered one of the most beautiful places in the world. Since 1988, Bath has been a World Heritage Site renowned for its beautiful architecture. Bath, on the River Avon, is an important cultural centre and it has a fantastic shopping area of intricate streets with more than 700 shops. It has a population of 85,000 people.
The School
International House Bath is open all year round and is located in the centre of the city. The school building dates back to the 18th Century and used to be General James Wolfe's house. In 1759, General James Wolfe was in charge of the British Army that fought against the French in Quebec (Canada).
The Classes
The minimum study period is two weeks. Maximum number of students per class is 12 (10 in low season) and minimum age for the courses is 16 during low season and 17 years during the summer. All levels of English are taught from elementary. Students who are absolute beginners should contact the school about starting dates. Classes last 45 minutes. The first textbook is included in the price of the course.
Accommodation
Students have the option of standard or superior room host family accommodation on a half-board basis during the week and full-board at weekends. Most host families live in residential areas within easy reach of the school by public transport.
Other types of accommodation available are: Youth Hostel, Student Residence (summer months only), Self-Catering Apartments, Hotels and Guesthouses.
Social Programme and student services
A weekly programme is offered throughout the year with a minimum of two evening activities per week and one full day excursion every weekend including pub visits, concerts, discos, parties and excursions. Excursions include trips to Oxford, the Cotswolds and Bristol.
Transfers
National Express Coaches have a frequent and direct service from the centre of London and from Heathrow airport to Bath (there is also an airport link from Gatwick airport to Heathrow). The trip from Heathrow lasts approximately 2.5 hours and a return ticket costs about 35GBP. The journey from Gatwick takes 4 hours and a return ticket costs about 40GBP.
Bus passes are available to order from school reception and cost from 12GBP per week.
