The International House Certificate Online Course

Course objectives

The main aim of this course is to prepare teachers for a job or career in EFL and / or provide teachers with a recognised qualification for teaching within the IH network of schools.

Course content

The core course covers the following areas:

Developing the 4 skills
Analysing language
Lesson Planning and planning a series of lessons
Introducing, revising, practising and correcting language at a range of levels
Classroom management skills
Motivating and challenging learners
Adapting and responding to different learning and teaching environments.

Mode of assessment

Distance tutors will monitor your progress, assess your written assignments and lesson plans.

Your local supervisor will observe your teaching and send recommendations to your distance tutor on your observed teaching

Your distance tutor will assess your lesson plans and read your self evaluation on teaching. They will then send you detailed feedback and grade your lessons

Is this course for you?

The IHCo is designed for people who have no or little training experience and want a recognised teaching qualification OR for experienced English teachers who would like to develop their teaching skills and gain a recognised qualification.

Location

The course is run predominately online and requires regular / daily access to the Internet with a good connection. The face-to-face component consists of teaching 6 hours during course over two distinct levels

Tutors

There will be two types of tutors. An online (distance) tutor who will guide trainees through the online sessions and mark the two assignments and a face-to-face (local) tutor who will observe the trainee teaching and provide feedback on lessons

Time commitment

Online component:
All course input is done online via tasks and discussions. There is no requirement to be online at specific times of the day nor will trainees be expected to do all tasks for one session at the same sitting.

Face-to face component:
Each lesson will require a pre-observation meeting with the face-to-face tutor to discuss the lesson and then time for the observation.
